Years before my lips uttered a word to you
I bet my heart still remembers what your eyes said:
“Ordinary people with extraordinary differences and perspectives, but with hearts just as one”
A far-fetched fantasy danced my mind everytime you walked by
Our eyes spoke languages only our hearts understood
It’s no lie that I wanted our bodies to converse too;
Pride laid aside as I tasted your desires with a future of no tomorrow.
Months before my mouth was confident enough to call your attention,
Watching you be you was a constant addiction.
I was not brave enough, just yet
To explore my curiosity
In my head though, you and I were the best addition
Every time I saw you walking with or talking to someone else
I’d wish I was Heaven’s mathematician to do constant division
In your presence, my words faded
My shyness crippled my desires and motivation.
All of me knew you and I are meant to be
Yet I feared what my broken pieces would make.
I mean, you’re perfect and look like you’ve never made a mistake
I couldn’t see how your wholeness and my broken pieces would fit.
Surely bygones would creep to the daylight and whisper threats
To separate all of tomorrow’s dreams and make our futures wish we never met.
Before the sound of your name could finally escape my lips loud enough for you to hear
Just before my larynx was brave enough to conquer my fear
That fate was sealed and our lives shifted gears
Life created a bigger distance and we were out of touch for years
I said your name louder now that you couldn’t hear.
Time passed and maturity made my desires fade
So when I saw you the other day, I said your name loud enough for you to hear
And I wrote this poem so you read the words you’d probably never hear:
“You’re my ‘what if’ that would probably never be clear”.
