My Liberian Loving

In the north central portion of Liberia,

My Liberian Loving began.

In his silence I felt love.

I was eighteen and he was nineteen.

In the shimmering moonlight,

We would talk for hours and oh! I still could not get tired.

I was tongue tied, but not mute.

Falling without even noticing,

That was a different me emerging.

That was a beautiful beginning of a feeling I could not resist.

His voice… how sweet he sounds

Those eyes? Not even a fugitive could escape their beauty!

Those cute tiny eyes, all smart looking

His smile and glittering skin, oh my! I could not help but give in.

My shy Kpelleh guy,

With the desire to look away, but I just could not.

I was stuck.

His unforgettable name engraved in my heart,

I longed for my Liberian guy.

For the first time in my life,

I went for what I truly desired.

So handsome,

Such an angel as kindness felt like his name.

Love in the heart

Its beating like the peaceful cultural drums of Lofa.

Two ethnicities joined by a pure bond of true and indestructible love

I could not stop myself, I went for it.

Like delicious snail torbogee,

I was ready to dine.

Our magnetic connection

Is yet the most beautiful one I have ever seen.

In a lonely world

A world of tears

When I could not help but doubt,

He filled the emptiness with love and assurance.

The lies

The fights

The troublesome and challenging times that wet my eyes and broke my heart

Afraid that it might get stormy

Afraid that it might break into uncollectible pieces,

My love became sour, then bitter.

Sometimes he wiped my teary eyes

Sometimes he made them more teary

But I did not quit

I held onto the bond

He held me tighter as our Liberian love journey kept moving through the hurricanes and storms.

As stubborn as a bull,

I would make my Kpelleh guy foaming with anger

The attitudes

The mood swings

I would confuse him, but

He always sacrificed his cold water to extinguish my flames.

Such a soul,

I dare not replace.

A rare gem in the land of Liberty

Worth more than riches,

Liberian Loving is survivable and revivable.

Even in distance,

Far across the oceans,

We watered our seed of love with trust and patience

our Liberian love keeps blossoming

An attraction I can’t repel.

I vowed to love him

My first and one true love, for all eternity.

Though there was no audience, but

The Maker of all creations was watching me

And after four amazing years, our love keeps growing

Truly my Liberian Loving is forever more.
