Under the Cotton Tree

In mama’s absence, you held my hands

As we tiptoed outside the den.

With our teeth grinding at each other,

we sat under the cotton tree

That shaded us from our griefs.

Then the leaves wiped out our tears,

As we sang hallelujah for years.

With a golden roof,

We built our home.

The bad-old days come creeping

Our smiles sleep across the shrine

Springing our feet in distance

And shifting our life from

Resemblance

Now our sun sets beyond the horizon.

Our standing chair walks slowly,

Folding its arms in loneliness.

  1. These are some fascinating lines that explore the shades of grief in a way I’ve never seen! Well done, Prince Poetry.
