Our Camp Days

From different backgrounds, we gather around

To make in a week, a better time than year round

In the quiet green White plains Camp

Making friends and having fun

Learning and working together to move on

Training leaders for different sections

Week alone in a small rural town, giving more formal education

Echoes of the small creek, as we journey to the big St. John River

Listening to myths of the deep darkness forest, as we move on

Taking cool baths at nature’s sight in unison, after long distance runs

Painful sounds of coordinators voices chorusing “rise and shine”

Five AM, the time we campers hate. . . In lines for food, we wait

Working individually and collectively, to achieve something at the end of every day.

Sunday chapel service, talent and camp fires nights to cheer and play

Sports, quizzing and in many other games we compete. . .

Pure fresh air filled with natural oxygen, greener natural grasses

Wine from Palm trees truly refreshing, the plain blue inspiring sky

Happy beautiful birds singing, closer to nature and friends to strangers

We all become more after every hour, this we all wish never passes out

As the spiritual, social, educational and lively hours push us to want to stay longer

Soon it is over. . . tears roll down our cheeks

As we leave each other, exchanging contacts and hoping to see.

Some of us may never see each other again, yet our knowledge shall lve with us

Those gone youthful days of ours.
