List of Things Google Say About Liberia

They heard about the massacres & had our blood flowing in their teacups.

They heard about the massacres & had our blood flowing in their teacups.

The world had us in their living rooms & listened to our cries through their radios & TVs.

The world carried us in their magazines, newspapers & so on. They were amazed by the cruelties in us.

They heard about NPFL & LURD – about child soldiers – about the fight to take Monrovia from those wounding it

They heard about men that dressed into cruelty’s long sleeves – about Charles Taylor refusing to step down

It was when the war was fought & won against children & mothers

& a boy lost his entire family from a single gunshot

It was when the war called me  from my mother’s split belly as rebels did bet on my gender

One said I was a girl & another said its a boy & my head was banged against the wall when one of them lost

It was when the wind whipped around bodies & survivors got up with blood painted on their lips every morning

Asking who’s shot? Who’s dying?  Who’s dead? Will the mortar be shot in this direction today?
