"Let’s School the School"

i hold school like the holy trinity,

father/son/& the holy spirit.

but here in my country, our schools are running short of blessings.

it’s like sometimes in april,

when bullets from angry men flooded our father’s home,

& our mother’s body tasted war for the first time.

i must confess to whom it may concern,

that our schools are buildings where education is not promised,

where corruption wears a smile like a man ascending to a public office.

i hate to write about our teachers,

teaching us things our eyes haven’t seen before,

attending lab classes that fail to prepare us for our WASSCE exams.

the school’s system has fallen in love with politics,

that’s why every student is like a politician with deceitful habits.

why are we still pledging allegiance to the flag of liberia?

somebody said; let’s school the school.

so, i am writing this poem for a teenager,

a little angel who lost her life to death in her classroom from a gun.

our schools aren’t safe any longer.

she plants kisses on our jaws like judas iscariot did to jesus,

and kidnaps her children for thirty pieces of silver.

if you didn’t know,

every school is going through sleepless nights in liberia,

& whenever i write, i’ll write about the chronicles of a bitter society.
