A Poem in Pictures (II)

This work of poetry is a social experiment on how people interpret different forms of art (in this case images shot by Ligerian Optics, on Ceasar Beach, Margibi County). The images were shared with the collaboration authors to write a stanza to each image as they are led. We thought to share with you (our readers) how one thing can mean different things to different people. Hopefully, this gives you a deeper appreciation for other perspectives and the diversity of art.

At first you seemed out of reach,
A painted picture, seemingly perfect
Your demeanor spelt “peace”
Your hair waved “freedom”
Your words made a ladder for me;
Made a connection with my heart.

Peace, the peace I needed
I couldn’t wait to have you,
To hold you in these arms,
To experience your calm
To feel you with these hands
To loc us like loose strands
As a partner and a friend,
Viewing life through a shared lens

Run, I ran to you racing
To find you without fear of fall.
You’d catch me,
Even if my legs and my hand failed to grab you.
Never fail me, I hoped so
Hoped for, reached for,
What I longed for, you.
The one thing to complete me, you.

Since I held on, I’ve never let go
Gripping you, peace I thought I’d find.
You, my completion, right?
Or was I wrong?
Was it just an illusion?
Have I come too far in the wrong direction?

Even if it is a for split second,
Gripping you with these hands feels like magic.
A magnetic force, pulling me to you
In this moment, I realize:
Falling for you wasn’t the hard task, letting you go would be.
With a grip so strong, how do I begin to let go
Of what I’ve fought so hard to gain? You!
