Whether it is the decision you make between what is right and what is wrong, the discernment between good and evil, the option you take between riding a taxi to go home or just strolling, staying home to study the day before a test or falling to peer pressure and going out all night to a party, we all make choices at some point in our lives. Be it a hasty, miscalculated, irrational choice or a calculated, calm and rational choice, choices are inevitably made. It’s like I always say: “Every man has the power to make his own choices at some point; it is one of the greatest gifts from God to mankind, and it is that of free-will.” What I mean is, at one point or another in our lives, we are faced with choice(s), and in these moments, we attain the ‘POWER OF CHOICES,’ and it is that power I am referring to as FREE-WILL.
Throughout history and man’s existence, people have used their power to make choices that were either positive game changers for the benefit of humanity or were so negative, they caused disasters and/or civil unrest. The choices we make today, whether big or small will forever affect our future in some way. Our personal choices lead to our personal consequences. Sometimes we forget or ignore our power of choices and allow others (read: society) to make our choices for us; we give them the power to decide for us what we should be, do, how to look, act, etc., and that at times can be a grave mistake on our part. Our choices are ours to make, and we as people must be strong enough to stand up for what we believe in and make our own choices rather than allow others do it for their own happiness, comfort or convenience.
I believe that on some level, we all can say that at some point in our lives, we made choices based on what we thought others wanted and that those are some of the decisions we regret the most. Whenever we do this, we are doing a grave injustice to our ‘Power of Choices’ and neglecting its essence. We must realize that our choices are our own, and so are the consequences that come with them; therefore we must embrace our choices happily and whatever consequences that may arise from them.
The benefit of free will is the freedom to choose so, let us all embrace our ‘Power of Choices’ because life, in and of itself, is a choice. There will always be choices that are needed to be made, and many of them may take us to various destinations, so I say that we all understand and honor that power we hold. I also urge you to remember that the ‘Power of Choices’ should be used for the greater good and for positive reasons at all times.
And as I embrace my own personal ‘Power of Choices,’ I choose to end here, thank you.
