DECONTEE (Everything Has Time)

In no time Kla was at Lassana’s house. Okay, go ahead ‘Scrapper in love’ tell me exactly what happened today. Lassana said, putting aside everything. “I got a missed call from Decontee today,” Kla begun to elucidate, “so I used one of my course-mates’ phone (Gbalee) to call her because I was out of airtime. She told me that she wanted to go for lunch at the cafeteria with her friends. Immediately, my smile died because I couldn’t meet her request at the time, so I lied that I was in Pleebo.” Continue Reading

MY VOW

Love is a word that is much too soft and used far too often to ever describe the fierce, infinite and blazing passion that I have in my heart for you. You are a million dreams and a million prayers of a little girl come true. You are kind. You are silly. You are intelligent. Your laugh is contagious. You acknowledge my strengths and accept my faults. You make me want to be a better person every day. I take you as you are now, tomorrow and for eternity to come, to be my husband.  Continue Reading

The Problem with Women’s Access to Abortion in Liberia II

Statistics would show that 1 out of every 3 persons you know has had an abortion or has a close/best friend who has had an abortion. Maybe even 2 out of every 4 lawmakers or religious figures you know have, at one point or the other, had or paid for an abortion for their wife, girlfriend, daugther or niece. Continue Reading

The Problem with Women’s Access to Abortion in Liberia- Part 1

Man, it’s crazy how many women lose their lives on a daily basis from unsafe abortions done by untrained and unskilled people using unsterile instruments. In Liberia, it is “illegal” to perform an abortion without “justifiable” reasons such as, rape, incest or a medical reason that could pose harm to the mother’s life. “Justifiable” we say, but what does it really mean?  Does it mean that the very few conditions listed above are the only “justifiable” reasons for abortion? Do you think so? Continue Reading

Auto Draft

What if I had listened to that one person I needed to know? Would I have been in a better position? Maybe I should embrace the hurts right? One thing’s for sure, they all leave you with experiences so bad yet so good for growth. We still don’t deserve that. It’s high time you know that it’s a relationship not a bank. Why do you guys make it so hard? Prioritizing the wrong things. Continue Reading

ONE OF MY LOVING EXPERIENCES IN LIBERIA

Some time later, I started seeing her again. Despite the fact that she had her boyfriend now, we did our same normal things we used to do (you should know the normal things.) I let her know that I couldn’t tell her I loved her even though I did, because of reasons known to myself. She started to weep out of confusion of who to choose now, her boyfriend or me. I did not tell her to choose anybody. Even though I knew she’d choose me, I’m not selfish enough to let her do that now.  Continue Reading
