He walked up to me and said,
“You don’t look like a typical Liberian girl,
Your diction is better and your skin is lighter.”
I looked him in the eye and told him to his face,
“I’m disappointed that I don’t look like a typical Liberian girl.”
You see, a typical Liberian girl is beautiful beyond words
And her flaws have never defined her.
She was caved in the bosom of God Himself
Every curve on her body was made to glorify the Lord.
A typical Liberian girl is wiser than everyone I know
She walks with grace wherever she goes.
Her steps are imprinted with innovation;
She’s my motivation.
I’m really hurt that I don’t look like a typical Liberian girl,
For she takes up the challenges of the world without fears
She faces them head on.
The chains of her situation has never held her captive
For she’s known for breaking free from every pain.
She is a hero, a goddess and a queen.
She exudes boldness
And confidences are at the taste of her lips.
She’s is a work of art;
I wish I looked exactly like her.
