We Shall Overcome

To quote Maya Angelou “Life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some humor, and some style.”

Life never gets easier so you should as well just get stronger.

Don’t let the mixed signals string you along. Indecision is a decision.

You know the rest.

So how are you doing?

This is a personal question.

I know people feeling worse than usual. Brilliant people. Loving people. Good people.

They’re struggling. You’re struggling.

And it’s OK.

These are the times that try the souls of men and women alike.

A test of our most cherished supposed values.

Of personal credo.

It’s a test of emotional and mental reserves.

Can you keep thinking? Keep loving? Keep supporting?

I say: you can.

Today and tomorrow.

You are surrounded by people suffering your same fatigue.

Reach out to them.

You are surrounded by those who want guidance.

Be that.

But wait, who am I to talk like this?

Yo, I’m tiiiiiiired.

Like you.

Like my friends.

Like my loved ones.

And…so what?

We can’t be permanently tired. Not yet.

We have much more to do. And we’ll do it.

But we’ll need certain provisions:

Plato and pasta.

Philosophy and wine.

Spirituality and church.

Friendship, social grace, and the collaboration of true colleagues.

I am a worldly cynic armed with the compass of optimists: I think that we can get our people where we need to go, come what may.

It’s just that today, I listened to several of my favorite people, counted the months, and wanted to share a message of love.

We’re tired but we’re together. We can bring others into the fold. We shall overcome.

And what else do we need, really?
